Charles “Butch” Ferris
April 20, 1942 — August 29, 2025
Celebrating a life well lived, Charles “Butch” Ferris, 83, reached the end of the trail on August 29, 2025, at home in Altoona, Iowa.
Butch was born on April 20, 1942, to Olin Wayne Ferris and Helen Jean (Alexander) Ferris near Hit, Missouri. He grew up with one brother, Russ, and three sisters - Carolyn, Marilyn, and Pam - and shared a special bond with each of them.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family - his daughter, Kim (John), and his son, Scott (Lori), along with his grandkids and great grandkids.
He began his trucking career at age 25 and spent the next 50 years behind the wheel, retiring at the age of 75. He was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to help anyone in need. Though he had the grit of a tough old cowboy, he was soft at heart and had a deep faith. People knew where they stood with Butch - he told it like it was, and you never had to guess what he was thinking.
Horses were a lifelong love for him. He enjoyed rodeos, trail riding, camping, listening to country music, working outdoors, and playing cards. Most of all, he cherished time spent with family and friends. He was one of a kind, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him and the friends he made along the trail. The memories and love he leaves behind will remain in our hearts forever.
Family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at NewLife Church, 6036 NE 12th Avenue in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Funeral services will be held the following day, Friday, September 5, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. also at the church. Burial to follow at Swan Cemetery in Swan, Iowa.
