Charles Stodden

Charles Delaine Stodden, 94, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
Charles was born June 13, 1931 to August and Theresa Stodden.
He served in the United States Army for two years, during the Korean Conflict.
Charles retired from Firestone as a laborer. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He had a passion for woodworking and construction projects. He was always working on a project and could make or fix anything. Charles enjoyed sitting outside under his shade tree on a cool summer afternoon. He enjoyed gardening and spent many hours with his roses and growing his tomatoes.
Charles is survived by his sons, David (Anne Berkley-Wright) Stodden and Steve (Mark Jacques) Stodden; daughters, Vicki (James) Stumme and Diane (Gary) Stumme; grandchildren, Jennifer (Adi Shankar) Stumme, Jessica (Sara Lopez) Stumme, Megan (Kaleb Keicher) Stodden, Tyler Stodden and Celia Stodden; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Delanie Sweaton, Liam Keicher; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Viola Jean Stodden; parents, August and Theresa Stodden; siblings, Merlin, Twyla, Gerald, and Charlene.
The family will be greeting friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on September 11, 2025 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive in Adel, Iowa.
