Jean Sandahl

December 11, 1932 — February 12, 2026

Clara Jean Sandahl, 93, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026 at Walnut Ridge Long Term Care under the care of Hospice of the Midwest.

She was born December 11, 1932 in Redfield, Iowa to her parents Carlton and Margaret Williams. Jean graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1950 after falling in love with Harold Sandahl, Jr. She was homecoming queen and he was a football player. They were united in marriage on December 21, 1953 and from this union they had two beautiful children, Sheryl “Sheri” Mahnke and Harold “Sandy” Sandahl III. Harold and Jean lived in their home for over 60 years.

Jean worked for Elmwood Elementary as a secretary followed by becoming a market researcher. She then worked for the American Greetings Cards.

Jean and Harold were members of the DSM Powerboat Club and spent many summers in the Ozarks boating and water skiing with friends and family. They also enjoyed taking swing dance classes and participating in bowling leagues. They traveled extensively in their later years and cherished time together at their Arizona home.

She is survived by her children, Sheri Mahnke and Sandy (Sherry) Sandahl; grandchildren, Diana (Ben) Jones, Kristin (James) Rice, David (Addy) Mahnke Jr., Beth Sandahl, Calli (Dan Gill) Sandahl, Chip Sandahl, and Sami Sandahl; and three great grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sandahl Jr.; infant brother, James Williams, and twin sister, Judy McCall.

No services will be held per Jean’s request. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
