Connie Schamerhorn

Connie Schamerhorn, 74, passed away at her home on June 18, 2025.

Connie was born July 16, 1950 in Des Moines to Earl and Hazel (Beer) Schamerhorn.

During her early years, Connie attended Maple Grove and Park Avenue Schools before enrolling in special education classes at Moulton School. Connie finished her education at Slinker School graduating in 1971.

In her adult years, Connie began receiving services at Link Associates in May of 1975. Connie was initially involved in Link’s work services program from 1975 until 2004. From 2004 to 2012, Connie participated in Link’s pre-vocational program then transferred to Link’s day habilitation program in 2012. In addition to Connie’s participation in Link’s day habilitation program, Connie began receiving daily supported community living services with Link Associates starting in April 2020. Connie was actively participating in these programs until her passing. Connie had many friends at Link and touched many lives. Her cheerful greetings especially those “Hi, Sweetheart” ones will be truly missed!

Connie is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Jack Schamerhorn, Dorothy Schamerhorn, Sharon Kutzner and Charles Schamerhorn.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Connie will be laid to rest following the visitation at 12:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
