Craig Thomas Ades
October 02, 1964 — July 24, 2026
Craig Thomas Ades, 61, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 24, 2026.
Craig never met a stranger and was the life of every gathering. His infectious smile, quick wit, and generous spirit made friends wherever he went. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Born on October 2, 1964, Craig was raised on the south side of Des Moines, Iowa, in a loving home with his parents and two older brothers. He was a gifted all-around athlete, but baseball was his true passion throughout high school. Later in life, he continued his love of the game by playing in a men’s softball league for many years. His biggest fan was his mother, who never missed a game and whose enthusiastic cheers could always be heard from the stands.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Craig began his career with the Des Moines Independent Community School District, where he faithfully served for more than 40 years. He spent the last 20 years at Lovejoy Elementary, where he was known and appreciated by students, and staff.
Above all else, Craig cherished his family. Left to honor and cherish his memory is the love of his life, his wife Debbie; their children, Ayrron Ades, Jake (Jamie) Pray, Alysse (Tyler) Sutton, Maria (Jacob) Munoz, and Ashton Ades (Rachel Lid); his grandchildren, Chase Senn, Maddi Ades, Matthew Ades, Raylee Sutton, Brandon Austin, Tiana Munoz, Sophia Munoz, Khloe Munoz, Lilian Pray, Madelyn Pray, and Amelia Pray; his brother, Brian (Patti) Ades; his fur babies, Leesa, Eeyore, and Cruiser; and many nephews, nieces, first cousins, great-nephews, great-nieces, and countless lifelong friends who will forever remember his smile, laughter, and wonderful sense of humor.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Ferne Ades; and his brother, Alan Ades.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Craig’s life during a visitation at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Immediately following the visitation, the family will be holding a Celebration of Life at 8040 Dema Drive.
Craig’s legacy is one of kindness, laughter, loyalty, and love. He touched the lives of many, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

RIP Craiger…. We always knew on the softball field when you didn’t live up to your own expectations.., you saying “Craig Thomas” under your breath while running out a ground ball to short or after a rare fielding error. You were the best teammate and friend that anyone could ever wish for. Love you brother !!
