Doris W. Belcher
March 22, 1939 — August 26, 2025
Doris W. Belcher, 86, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
Doris was born March 22, 1939, in Lampertheim, Germany to Barbara and Kurt Storz. She grew up in Germany, immigrating to the United States in 1959, and settling in the Des Moines area in 1961. She worked as a waitress in her younger years, then was employed by MidAmerican in their administrative offices for over 20 years. She was raised in the Lutheran Faith, and was devoted to her family and friends.
Doris’ greatest love was her family. She was happiest surrounded by them in her beautiful home, hosting and entertaining. Holidays were a special time and she never missed a reason to gather her loved ones around her to celebrate. Her door was always open and she welcomed her many friends into her home as well. She loved her pool and spent time outdoors every day.
Doris enjoyed music and attending concerts. She loved to travel with her husband, Dale and they went to many places internationally and touched down on multiple continents. Doris kept in touch with her family in Germany. Many trips were made to visit them and Doris and Dale were always greeted warmly with a place to stay for as long as they wanted. Many lasting memories were made in Europe and some of the strongest were in her beloved Prague.
Doris was a sports fan and loved cheering on the Yankees. She was also an animal lover and enjoyed taking care of her cats that blessed her with many years, most recently her cat, Tiger. Doris loved her pets and everyone else’s. She had a loving heart and a generous nature. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend to many. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Dale L. Belcher; son, David (Sherri) Little; daughter, Susan (Steve) Wallace; step-daughter, Kristy Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Eric (Angie) Little, Nicole (Greg) Clark, Jared Fink, and Bradley Simpson; step-grandchildren, Chad (Robin) Wallace, Shane (Megan) Wallace, Lea Fitzgerald, Samantha Fitzgerald, and Allie (Andrew) Utterback; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Greg Fitzgerald; and her parents.
Private family services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

My sympathies to Susan and family. I worked at MidAmerican with Doris. She greeted us every morning with a warm and positive smile and nature. She was like a Mom to me, too, and everyone loved her. Doris brightened everyone’s life and she won’t be forgotten! May she rest in oeace!❤️🙏

So sorry for your loss. I work with Doris for many years at MidAmerican. She made me laugh and was like a mom to me. I remember the morning of 911 and watching the TV at her desk hold on to each other and crying. I found so much comfort in that thought ever since. She was a great lady and will be missed.
