Dave Featherstone
December 29, 1942 — July 11, 2025
David C. Featherstone was born on December 29, 1942, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Eric and Margaret (Walden) Featherstone. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his service, Dave graduated from Lincoln Tech with a degree in automotive mechanics. He dedicated much of his career to All Pro Service Center at Merle Hay and Meredith. He also worked almost 20 years for the Grimes Sweet Corn trucks every summer selling sweet corn. Dave was also a member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion.
Dave was a mechanic in profession and hobby. He was always available to help people and taught many how to care for their own vehicles. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling and fishing, and he was an avid car racing enthusiast. He also loved playing cards with friends and family. Dave was a Caitlin Clark fan and enjoyed watching her play basketball for Iowa, and followed her career to the WNBA. The number 22 held special significance for him. Though he wasn't a golfer himself, he found joy in walking the golf course and collecting lost golf balls—a pastime he was enjoying when he passed. His family takes comfort in knowing he left this world doing something he loved.
He passed away Friday, July 11, 2025, at the age of 82. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Vickie; sons, Michael Featherstone and Jeff (Jill) Featherstone; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Eric (Alexandra), Cade, Cierra, Aubrey, and Alexander Featherstone; sisters, Lillian Featherstone and Mary (Herb Brodsky) Featherstone; as well as a host of other extended family and many friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Margaret Featherstone and his brother, Jerry Featherstone.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial with military honors will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2025, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel.

David was a wonderful friend to me and my husband. We had known each other for over 57 years. He along with his wife, Vicki spent many years coming to visit us in Mississippi and then going to the Florida coast. We will miss him and his wonderful sense of humor. Love to all the family!❤️
