Donald G. Harshaw

Donald Gene Harshaw, age 75, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025. Born in Moline, Illinois, on August 21, 1949, to Annie Laurie Kiem and Robert Gordon Harshaw, Donald lived a full and colorful life. He called many places home over the years—including Florida, California, and Nevada—before eventually settling in the Des Moines area.

Donald spent much of his career working in casinos, with his final role before retirement at the Rio Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked in the maintenance and custodial department. He often spoke fondly of Las Vegas and dreamed of returning one day.

Donald had a big heart and a generous spirit. He was known for giving rides to anyone in need of transportation, always ensuring people got where they needed to go. He enjoyed traveling, had a fondness for cold beer, and was never shy about his admiration for the women in his life. He had a soft spot for children, often making homemade cheesecake for them and keeping Mountain Dew stocked just for them.

Donald is lovingly survived by his brothers, Dennis Myers and Charles Myers, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and other siblings.

He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, and the loyalty he showed to those he cared about.
