Darlene Marie Jones
of Pleasant Hill, IA

Darlene Jones, 87, a former Altoona resident, went home to her Lord and Savior on July 12, 2025 at Edencrest in Pleasant Hill, IA. She was born the daughter of Ben and Hazel Mann on November 28, 1937 in Des Moines, IA.

Darlene loved her family with her whole heart. She met her husband, Gary, in 1955, and they were married in 1958. The two spent almost 70 years together, and they raised three spunky and adoring kids. Once their children left home, Darlene spent much of her time welcoming them back to the farm, along with her grandchildren, for holidays, dinners, or coffee, but always for laughter! Darlene was often busy cleaning up around the house and working on her chores, but many mornings she socialized with her Altoona Campus family over exercise and a cup of coffee. She was deeply devoted to Jesus and embodied Christ to those she encountered. Darlene loved her church community at NewLife in Pleasant Hill, and invested in her bible study and 50+ groups. Her last days were filled with peace and laughter as her family and friends sought to love her as much as she had loved them.

Those left to cherish Darlene’s memory include her loving husband, Garold Jones, her children, David Jones (Denise), Steven Jones (Linda), Julie Ennis (Kenny), and Timothy Davis (Fe), her grandchildren, Jessica Olmstead (Justin), Alexander Jones (Zach Hartje), Faith Ennis, and Kate Parkin (Jason), her six great-grandchildren, and her sister, Kathy Bahl.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Harold Mann, and her two grandsons, Adam Davis and Aaron Davis.

Darlene’s family would like to thank the staff at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and Every Step Hospice, as well as the staff who served and continue to serve her family at Edencrest in Pleasant Hill.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date as her family awaits her return from Des Moines University. Darlene charitably wished to donate her body to the university for scientific research and education.

Memorial contributions may be directed to NewLife Church–Pleasant Hill in memory of Darlene Jones.
