Derald R. Leaming

Derald Ray Leaming, age 96, passed away Monday, November 24, 2025, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines.

Derald was born May 10, 1929, in Iowa to Joseph and Hermina (Soupon) Leaming.

He proudly served in the United States Army.
He was also a dedicated member of the Des Moines Police Department.

He enjoyed most of his retirement in Arizona with his wife, Darlene, who he was married to for 72 years. She was his teenage sweetheart and the love of his life. He returned to his home state earlier this year. He will be remembered for always being available for his family, reading western adventure books, telling stories, and playing golf.

Derald is survived by his children, Vicky, Craig, and Diana; his grandchildren, Bryan, Eric, Carrie, Corey, Chad, Courtney, Joseph, Alex, Cassidy, and Justin; along with his many great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Leaming and his brothers, Joe Jr, Phillip, and Gordon.
