Service Details

Danny Lee McLaughlin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on October 31, 2025. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Danny lived a full life defined by his huge personality.

Known to many as Big Daddy, Danny spent over 50 years in the concrete industry. He had an enormous heart, a sharp sense of humor, and a gift for making everyone around him feel like family whether you knew him for 15 years or 5 minutes. He was the life of the party always telling a story, cracking a joke, or doing something crazy just to make people laugh. When you were in his presence, you were either smiling, laughing hysterically or recovering from one of his pranks.

Danny loved the outdoors and passed that passion on to his kids teaching them to hunt, fish, camp, search for morel mushrooms, and appreciate nature. He was a stellar athlete and succeeded at any sport he played, especially basketball, softball, golf, and bowling. He was a legend to those who had the pleasure to see him in action. He was an excellent coach for his kids while also being their biggest cheerleader. He loved Florida sunshine, good Mexican food, playing poker, and dancing.

He deeply loved his wife, Peggy from spontaneous trips to Las Vegas to the years he spent as her devoted caretaker, they shared a beautiful bond that lasted until her passing in 2021.

Danny is survived by his children, Jody, Shannon, and Katie; siblings, Diane, Daryl, Drew, and Denisa; and grandchildren, Saetia, Adrien, Edie, Daniel, Tabby, Michael, and Emma.

Danny lived big, loved deeply, and left everyone with at least one story or a goose that still makes them laugh. Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family in loving memory of Danny McLaughlin.
