Darry Lee Bailey, 66, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025.

Born on April 4, 1959, in Memphis, Tennessee, Darry was the son of Frank and Ella (Walker) Bailey. A proud and social person, Darry was deeply devoted to his family and friends. He had a natural ability to connect with people and was known for his warm personality and sense of humor.

Darry had a great love for music and movies—especially anything by Pink Floyd, whose songs were the soundtrack to many moments in his life. Over the years, he worked for various grocery stores in the Des Moines area, where he continued building the friendships and community connections that meant so much to him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nichole King; his children, Darrick (Dani) Bailey and Erika Bailey; step-children, Patience (Matt) Schnoor, Amber (Joe) Steil, and Robby Swacker; grandchildren, Kolten, Gracie, Hannah, and Serenity. He is also survived by his siblings, Doris Bailey, Patricia Coleman, Tony Bailey, Chrissy Bailey, and Amber Bailey, as well as several other siblings; the mother of his children, Leanah Bailey; step-mother, Gail Bailey; and numerous other loving family members and friends.

Darry was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ella Bailey; his daughter, Erin Bailey; his brother, Willie Bailey; and his sister, Ella Renee Bailey.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Saylorville Lake Cherry Glen Picnic Area, 4599 NW 94th Ave #4339 (Shelter 6), Polk City, IA 50226, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Darry will be remembered for his fun-loving nature, big heart, and the deep love he had for those closest to him. He will be missed dearly and remembered always.
