David Leon Fetters

David Leon Fetters, 84, of Humeston, Iowa passed away suddenly at his home on November 3, 2025. Born on December 14, 1940 to Edward Leon and Virginia Ruth Fetters, David lived a full and happy life as a business owner, truck driver, ordained minister, devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.

David found his calling and began his career in 1963 driving as an owner/operator for Wheaton Van Lines. During his career he earned many awards by providing professional and personable service.

He is survived by his loving sister Kathy Riley (John) of Des Moines and his brothers Ed Fetters (Sue) of Carlisle, Iowa and John Fetters of California, daughters Christy Hawthorne of Des Moines, Terry Neal (John) of Des Moines, Nicolle Gamez (Alberto) of Maryland, Kristina Fortner of North Carolina, and Dalynn Gallegos of Dallas Center, Iowa. His sons, Cory Bartlett of North Carolina, David Fetters of Des Moines, Iowa, Michael Fetters of Humeston, Iowa, Jesse Fetters (Carrielynn) of Norwalk, Iowa, Donovan Waterman of Humeston, Iowa, 20 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and fellow drivers.

David is preceded in death by his mother, father, baby sister, Ruth Fetters, son Richard Browning, grandson John Neal, granddaughter Lindsay Hart, and niece Kathylynn Riley.

David enjoyed spending time with his family, playing Texas Hold ‘em, fishing, attending auctions, tinkering with trucks, cars, and boats, talking politics, and passing down the wisdom he gained over an 84-year life.

He will be truly missed by those who knew him.

Funeral arrangements are being made by Hamilton’s Funeral Home in Des Moines. There will be a graveside service on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Laurel Hills Cemetery.
