David Martinson, 83, passed away August 14, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
David was born May 3, 1942 to George and Agnes Martinson in Marshalltown, Iowa. He graduated from Eldora High School in 1960 and later attended Southwestern Community College. He then graduated from Berean School of the Bible. His many career opportunities included meat cutter and Deputy County Assessor. He moved to Greenfield in 1962 and met the love of his life Sharon when she stopped in every morning on her way to high school to pick up something for her lunch. It was love at first sight! They were married for 62 years. In the 1970’s David felt the Lord calling him to the ministry and he felt the passion to share Jesus with everyone. He pastored two small churches for 35 years.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his kids and grandkids. David was a gifted storyteller, delighting the grandkids with tales and songs. A master of the grill, David even won the State Fair Championship and advanced to the Nationals in the 1960s. After retiring, he and Sharon remained active, volunteering with the Lutheran Church of Hope, where David found great joy ministering in senior living centers.
David is survived by his wife, Sharon Martinson of West Des Moines; his daughters, Tammy (Kevin) Allsup of West Des Moines, Debbie Boeck of Waukee, and Becky (Adam) Wadle of Melcher Dallas; grandchildren, Larissa Mennen, Lucas (Amanda) Allsup, Mandi (Cody) Barnes, Madison (Ralphie) Boeck, Taylor (Levi) Thompson, Jordan (Tori) Thompson, Brady Thompson, and Addi Wadle; great-grandchildren, Keaton, Khloe, Karsen, and Kambrie Mennen, Charli Barnes, Ethan, Lane and Asher Allsup, and Anna and Emma Thompson; sister-in-law, Kathy Martinson; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

We sat by them in church, often, Easy to tell he was a Christian by just talking to him. They enjoyed their puppies as I recall. Condolences to all who are mourning.

My family and I are so sorry for your family’s loss. Dave and Sharon were a wonderful couple, and his sermons were a blessing and a gift. They were also wonderfully supportive parents to a very nervous first year teacher when I had Becky in 3rd grade! And then the love continued as I came to know Larissa and her children. I know David’s legacy will live on in all whose lives he touched. He was a good man.
