Dennis Lee Jones
December 11, 1953 — May 27, 2026
Seeing the goodness in everyone and treating people with kindness was his superpower. He would tilt his head sideways, look you in the eye, smile, and talk to you s-l-o-w-l-y and sincerely.
Dennis Lee Jones was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on December 11, 1953, to Delbert and Sadye Jones, the second of five children, all with names starting with the letter "D."
He was raised in a loving and disciplined Christian home on the east side of Des Moines. He attended Des Moines Public Schools before studying at DMACC, Drake University, and the University of Iowa. Dennis was a member of Corinthian Baptist Church, where he was baptized at age 11 and took part in a variety of church programs and groups.
If you visited his home, one of the first things he would ask was, “Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?” By feeding you with food, he also fed you spiritually.
He developed deep friendships that lasted his lifetime.
Dennis relocated to San Diego in the late 1970s, where he married and raised four children while working for Xerox Corporation for 18 years. He enjoyed coaching basketball in YMCA recreation programs, camping trips throughout California, ocean cruises, and writing poetry. It was important to him that his California family and Des Moines family maintained a close connection, so visits to Iowa were frequent. Dennis and his family united with New Creation Church in San Diego, California.
“Confidence in God’s Word is your strength.” -Proverbs 3:26
Dennis returned to Des Moines in 2004 due to heart health issues but continued to travel to California to spend time with his children. He reunited with Corinthian Baptist Church upon his return.
Dennis faced his heart health challenges with dignity. The medications and seven pacemaker implants over 26 years were taxing, but he remained positive, reading healing scriptures, drinking his special smoothies every day, and doing all he could to stay healthy.
Dennis lived as a loving caregiver for his family, his father, his mother, and animals. He persevered through his own pain and health conditions, providing soothing comfort and improving the lives of those closest to him.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Delbert Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Sadye Fristo; his wife, Lori; his sons Lee, Brandon, and Marques; his daughter, Annisa; his granddaughters, Mia and Zoe all of San Diego; his brothers, Del (Rebecca), Doug (Jane), and David (Nancy); his sister, DeLora (Michael) of Tampa; his stepsons Ryan Collier and Butchie Collier; his nieces and nephews, Cindy (Mel), David Allen (Ketra), Daviere, Briar (Matt), Cole, and Tracie (Lou); his aunt, Nancy Robinson of Maryland; and many cousins and extended family members

Dennis will truly be missed. His presence and family will always hold a special place with my family. So sorry for your loss. A kind soul and gentle smile. I know my mother enjoyed working with him at the church, and his mother, as well. So grateful to have encountered him throughout the years.

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and He delighted in his way” Psalm 37:23
God intentionally guides and directs the path of those who seek His will and He finds joy in their journey.
Brother Dennis L. Jones was a good man!
He was spiritual, nurturing, welcoming, and caring!
I trust that God is pleased with his journey and has offered peace and rest.

My heart is deeply saddened by the passing of Dennis. Please know that I am holding the family in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Dennis was a remarkable man whose kindness, encouragement, and unwavering support touched the lives of so many. He always seemed to have a kind word to offer, a helping hand to extend, and a servant’s heart that reflected the love of Christ. His life was a testimony of faith, humility, and devotion to God’s work. Dennis exemplified what it means to walk faithfully with the Lord.
One of the qualities I admired most about Dennis was his deep spiritual grounding. His faith was not merely something he spoke about, it was evident in the way he lived, served others, and carried himself with grace and compassion. As Scripture reminds us, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23, NIV). Dennis faithfully served both God and others, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
While our hearts grieve his absence, we find comfort in God’s promise: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18, NIV). May Lori and all who loved Dennis feel the comforting presence of God surrounding them during this season of sorrow.
We also hold tightly to the hope found in Christ. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” (John 11:25, NIV). Dennis’s faith assures us that this earthly goodbye is not the end, but rather the beginning of eternal life in the presence of the Lord he loved and served so faithfully.
Lori, may you find strength in the love that surrounds you, peace in the promises of God, and comfort in the beautiful memories you shared with Dennis. His impact on countless lives will never be forgotten, and his legacy of faith, kindness, and service will continue to shine brightly.
Sending love, light, prayers, and heartfelt condolences during this time of loss. May God’s grace sustain you and His peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
With deepest sympathy and love,
Lillie Parker

Dennis was such a beautiful light in this world. Every time I visited while doing hair with Lori, I truly enjoyed our conversations and his warm spirit. He had a way of making people feel welcome, valued, and appreciated simply by being himself.
My heart aches for Lori and the entire family as they navigate this tremendous loss. Dennis touched so many lives with his kindness, his presence, and his genuine heart. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Sending love, prayers, strength, and comfort to the Jones family. May the wonderful memories of Dennis continue to shine brightly in your hearts forever. ❤️
