Diane Kathleen Stubbs

Diane Kathleen Stubbs, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Garland and Alice Schmidt on August 15, 1942.
Diane grew up on a farm in Sac City, Iowa. Growing up, her passion was school, reading, and 4H. Into adult life, her continued love for reading (especially romance novels), classical music, WHO radio, craft shows, and buying cookbooks blossomed.
She attended the IMMC College of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1964. She worked as a nurse for over 45 years. Diane had the softest heart—the joke was “She wouldn’t even hurt a flea.”
She met the love of her life on a blind date back in 1967, Clyde Randall “Randy” Stubbs. Diane and Randy married March 22, 1969. They went on to have two daughters, Kathleen Elizabeth Richardson and Emily Ann Stubbs. Their marriage lasted 30 years when Randall unexpectedly passed away on December 2, 1998. Diane stayed true to Randall until her last breath on August 5th; she is now again with the love of her life.
Diane was blessed to have two grandsons from her daughter Kathleen—Colton James (24) and Colby Blake (20) Richardson. She helped babysit the boys for many years. One of their favorite things to do was eat out at either Wendy’s or Culver’s; the boys had grandma wrapped around their fingers.
Diane is survived by her mother, Alice I. Schmidt, who is 105 years old; daughters, Kathleen and Emily; grandsons, Colton and Colby; sister, Cynthia (Mike) Puetz; niece, Michele (Chris) Ratigan and family; and many cousins, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Randall; and her father, Garland A. Schmidt.
The family will host a celebration of life at a later date, and loved ones will be notified of the details once finalized.
