Donna Kent

Donna Kent, was born April 10, 1949 to George & Ilene Strable.

Donna graduated from Tech High in Des Moines. She enjoyed crocheting, shooting pool and playing bingo. Donna was especially fond of anything to do with elephants.
Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Donna married James Shelton SR, and together they had a son, James Shelton JR. She eventually divorced and married James Kent SR.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ilene Strable; husband, James Kent SR; brothers, Dennis Strable and Larry Graspy; sisters, Dorothy Wessel and Diane Wise; step-grandson, Aden Beaman; and step-great-granddaughter, Oaklynn Ryan.

She is survived by her son, James (Kristina) Shelton JR; brother, George (Sherri) Strable; former spouse, James Shelton SR; grandchildren, Michael (Megan), Jennifer, Kimberly, and Emily Shelton; step-grandchildren, Kassadee Nelson, Jennifer Clarke, Johnathan Clarke, Ashlyn Beaman, and Gabriel Beaman; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will be greeting friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home; 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Donna will be laid to rest at a later date.
