Service Details

Donna Minahan, born on March 24, 1937, in Milbank, South Dakota, was a beloved daughter to June and Loral (Bob) Williams and a cherished sister to Shirley, Marilyn, and Betty. Donna’s life was marked by deep love for her family and an unwavering commitment to those around her.

On June 7, 1958, Donna married Richard Minahan, beginning a partnership filled with laughter, devotion, and joy. Together, they raised two daughters, Pamela (Dean) Gissel and Kimberly (Neil) Wellner, and built a family rooted in love and togetherness. Donna embraced her roles as grandma and nana with immense pride and her legacy continues through her four grandchildren—Ashley (Cory) Ahl, Andrew (Hannah) Gissel, Molly (Ryan) Helmers, and Amy (Alex) Larsen—and her four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Grant (Cory and Ashley Ahl), and Lyla and Zoey (Ryan and Molly Helmers). Donna’s love extended beyond her immediate family to many nieces and nephews, with whom she shared countless special moments and treasured memories.

Donna’s greatest joy was found in the company of her beloved family. She treasured every moment spent together—whether traveling, fishing, or gathering at Betty’s lake house and Shirley’s farm. She never missed a game or special occasion for her children or grandchildren. She celebrated each milestone. Donna’s love for family traditions shone brightest during their legendary Black Friday shopping trips, where laughter filled the air and her van overflowed with memories and treasures. She will be remembered through her joyful holiday celebrations, where her living room overflowed with thoughtful gifts and her heart with love. Each holiday, she delighted in choosing presents for her family, friends, and church, always accompanied by her cheerful quip “I cut back,” and Richard’s knowing smile. Donna’s generosity and warmth made every gathering special.

Donna touched countless lives with her warmth, generosity, and unwavering friendship. She cherished her many friends, considering them an extension of her family. Donna found joy on the golf course, sharing laughter and camaraderie during golf outings at the La Porte City Golf Club and with her beloved ladies club.

Donna was a devoted and cherished member of her church community, where her faith and compassionate spirit touched the lives of all those around her. She served as a pillar of support and friendship, leading social groups and organizing memorable gatherings that brought people together in fellowship. Through her unwavering dedication and warm heart, Donna fostered a sense of belonging and togetherness, leaving an indelible mark on her church family and all who had the privilege to know her. Donna’s love for bunko nights and group dinners after Saturday night mass created lasting memories for all who joined her.

Her love for gardening and her playful spirit with Richard were well known, and their enduring love was an inspiration to all who knew them. Donna and Richard were often the last couple standing at wedding dances, a testament to their lifelong bond.

Donna’s warmth, kindness, and social nature brought joy to everyone she met. She was a true social butterfly, and her love for angels reflected the gentle, caring spirit she shared with the world. Donna will be remembered as an angel herself, watching over her family and friends with love.
