Douglas "Doug" Bixler

Douglas “Doug” Bixler, 61, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, April 10, 2025. He was born October 6, 1963 in Des Moines, the youngest of four sons to Jimmy and Lillie Ann Bixler.

Doug was a 1982 graduate of Lincoln High School where he participated in the football and baseball programs. He enjoyed fishing, recreational softball, billards and darts, being outdoors, frequent trips to the casino with his father, and spending time with his grandchildren. Doug was an avid Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs fan.

Doug is survived by his children, Kyle Conkel and Miranda Bixler (Conner Vigen); his grandchildren, Thomas Sanders, Wyatt Hunt, Kikue Conkel, Gavin Sanders, Ronnie Vigen, and Korra Conkel; brothers, James Bixler (Charlotte), Jeffrey Bixler and David Bixler; nieces, Sara King (Jeremy), Amy Rogalla (Brandon), Jonathan Bixler (Vanessa), and Jordan Spooner (Adam); as well as a host of great nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 18, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a visitation and celebration of Doug’s life until 5:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
