Duane C. Gross

Duane C. Gross, 91, passed away on May 22, 2025, at Bishop Drumm in Johnston, Iowa.
Duane was born on January 14, 1934, to Cephas and Hilda Gross in Lone Rock, Iowa. He went to Country School until the fourth grade, when he then went to Lone Rock Community School. When Duane was a sophomore in high school, his family moved to Burt, Iowa. He graduated from Burt High School in 1952. Following high school, Duane and his brother Perry went to Chicago to an Allied School of Technology. He returned to Burt after completing his education.
In 1960, Duane met a beautiful young lady, named Margaret Moore. On May 18, 1962, they were married in Titonka, Iowa and later moved to Forest City, Iowa where Duane was working for Winnebago Trailers. In 1965, the family moved to Indianola where he went to work for McCoy Trailers. Duane later began working for Dico in Des Moines which he retired from in 1995 after 30 years of service. Duane and Margaret raised their family on Des Moines’ southside. He was very handy and could always be found working on projects. Duane enjoyed trapshooting, gardening, fishing and spending time with the six grandchildren that they were blessed with.
Duane is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Margaret; sons, Mark (Melissa) Gross and Lynn Gross; grandchildren, Kennedy (Logan) King, Logan Gross, Mckenzie Shumaker, Caroline Gross, Camdyn (Jarrett Meaike) Gross and Meredith Gross; great-grandchildren, Oakleigh King, Weston Meaike, Warren King Wrenley Meaike and Wriley Meaike; sister, Rose Ann Gifford; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Donald Gross, Doris Crouse, Richard Gross, Perry Gross and Dwight Gross; and his half-siblings, Gwen, Harold and Russell.
The family will greet friends Monday, June 16, 2025 starting at 10:00 a.m. with the memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
