Edward “Chip” Richards Meadowcroft, age 84, passed away on January 11, 2026, in Mitchellville, Iowa. He was born on January 29, 1941, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Chip attended elementary school in Avalon, Pennsylvania, and completed high school in California. He continued his education at Citrus College in California, Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology. He later attended Mercy College of Nursing in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating as a registered nurse. Chip spent his career in nursing, most recently working as a registered nurse, a profession that reflected his compassion and dedication to caring for others.

Chip proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era as a radar technician.

A devoted man of faith, Chip was a longtime member of Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona, Iowa. He faithfully served the church through various committees over the years, participated in several mission trips to Mexico, and was a regular attendee of the men’s Bible study, meeting weekly on Saturday mornings. He deeply loved the Lord and was known for his faithful prayers on behalf of others.

Chip loved music and was constantly whistling tunes, often saying he had a song for every situation. He also enjoyed watching sports on television and was a loyal fan of LSU, the University of Nebraska, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He found peace in simple pleasures, including feeding and watching birds at his feeders, and he took great pride in maintaining his property, spending many hours mowing and trimming trees and bushes. Chip was known for his great sense of humor and loved joking and sharing laughter with those around him.

Chip is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Meadowcroft; his children, Lisa (Daniel) McNerney, Lauri (Andrew) Meadowcroft, and Bart (Judy) Meadowcroft; his brother, Douglas Meadowcroft; his sister, Sue (Harlan) Kaufman; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona, Iowa. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., also at the church. Burial will take place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
