Elizabeth Long

Elizabeth Long, age 35, was born October 5, 1990. She passed away Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

To Elizabeth, being a mom was everything. Motherhood wasn't just a role she played—it was the center of her world, the place where she found her greatest joy and most meaningful purpose. Elizabeth was a talented cook and her macaroni and lasagna were family favorites.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Christopher Long; sons, Anthony and Christopher; adoptive mother, Susan Riggs; siblings, Sarah Bassford (Troy), Kevin Barns, Isaiah Johnson, Michael Bassford, and Noah Bassford; and many nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her birth parents, Patricia and Randy Howe; brother, Anthony Grace; and stepfather, Kenny Riggs.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Canfield Cemetery after the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Elizabeth.
