Christine Francese Meneough

Christine Francese Meneough, lovingly known as “Fran” or “Franny”, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 in Indianola, Iowa, at the age of 87. Francese was born May 25, 1938 to John and Pauline (Koncher) Duncan in Boone, Iowa. Fran lived life filled with warmth, laughter and a deep devotion to her family and friends. If you knew Fran you knew you weren’t getting away without at least one big hug (and probably more)!

Fran was a talented and dedicated hairdresser, known not only for her skill but also for the joy and conversation she brought to everyone who sat in her chair. She made many life long friends over the years. Her work was more than a profession—it was a way she connected with her community and brightened the lives of others. She also had the honor of being the first one to cut each of the grandkids hair. Memories we will always cherish.

Outside of work, Fran found joy in bowling and camping earlier in life. Later in life you could find her with a good book in hand as she loved reading. She also enjoyed sports and was always up for watching whatever sport was in season at the time- football, basketball, baseball- it didn’t matter she would watch and cheer. If her grandkids were involved that was even better. She loved to tailgate with family and friends (Go Cyclones!) and would often call to find out what channel some game was on. Even at the care center she had a list of basketball games/dates/channels. But it was her role as a mother, grandmother, and friend that truly defined her life. She cherished every moment spent with loved ones and created countless memories that will be treasured forever.

She is survived by her sons, Matt (Lauri) Meneough and Patrick (Julie) Meneough; grandchildren, Keegan Meneough, Kayleigh Meneough, Brandon Schmitt, Blake Schmitt, Molly Meneough, Raine Meneough and Audrey Meneough; and great-grandchildren, Zahara Schmitt and Morgan Meeves.

Fran was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Michele Meneough, as well as her beloved sisters, Colleen Jensen and Joan Webb. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.

Funeral services will be held from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation one hour prior. Burial following at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Nevada, Iowa. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and share in remembering a life so beautifully lived.

Fran’s kindness, humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
