Francis J Miller
December 03, 1943 — September 15, 2025
Francis Joseph Miller, a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 3, 1943, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Earl and Janette Miller. Francis grew up on the south side of Des Moines as the oldest of eleven children, attending St. Anthony’s School and Dowling High School. In 1962, he married Eileen Sinclair, beginning a 63-year marriage marked by love and partnership. Together, they raised eight children and created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and countless memories.
Francis had a long career in floor installation, earning the trust of colleagues and customers through his strong work ethic and dependability. A devoted father, Francis found joy in coaching his children in Little League baseball and softball and never missed a sporting event, recital, or activity involving his children or grandchildren.
The Miller home was more than just a house; it was a gathering place where family and friends were always welcomed. Holidays were especially cherished, with traditions upheld and family bonds strengthened. Francis and Eileen’s hospitality created a home filled with love and laughter.
Francis was dedicated to his faith and generously gave his time and support to Christ the King Church and School. He was known for his calm demeanor, quick wit, and friendly nature, which endeared him to all who knew him. His sense of humor, easy laugh, and genuine kindness left a lasting impression that will not be forgotten. To many, Francis stood as a role model, showing through his example what it means to be a devoted husband, a loving father, and a man of quiet strength and integrity.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Janette; his sister, Madonna Aldridge; his son, Michael Miller; and his daughter, Sheila McGoldrick.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen; his children: Francis (Bud) Miller (Rachel), Janelle Miller, Chris Miller (Kim), Pat Miller (Kristi), Monica Roland (Mike), Steve McGoldrick, Sarah Dudley (Marty), and David Miller (Andrea); 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 21, from 6:00–8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m., at Christ the King Church, 5711 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church, followed by a luncheon. Interment will be at Sunset Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Christ the King Parish Capital Campaign in Francis’s name: Christ the King Parish Capital Campaign.

I have many fond memories of Francis almost all of which include a laugh! During the summers when I was 13-16 years old I would work as Donnie Shuff’s carpet pad layer and carpet trimmer and we would meet mornings at Reliable Rug downtown where Francis would hand out everyone’s job site work orders for the day. He always had a smile on his face and one-liner jokes to keep things light and easy. He was one-of-kind and will be sorely missed by many. Love you and miss you uncle Francis

Coach Francis left a positive impression on so many. It's been over 45 years, and I still remember as a kid, his genuine good nature and appropriate perspective on the importance of how we played baseball. Being on the Ft Des Moines White Sox back in 1977 meant a lot to me and several of my classmates at Christ the King. He was one of a kind. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the entire Miller family.

My dad & Francis were laying carpet years ago my dad cut his hand & Francis took us so my dad could get stitches my brothers & I were crying & upset about our dad & Francis said he had a trick, he started wiggling both of his ears without touching them. We were AMAZED & were LAUGHING. He kept wiggling his ears the entire time to make us laugh until my mom & dad were finished at the hospital. ❤️
