Gary W. Redburn

Gary Wayne Redburn, age 67, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

Gary was born March 17, 1958, in Des Moines, Iowa to Russell and Maxine (Sanderson) Redburn. He was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. Gary worked for the City of Des Moines in the Parks Department. He enjoyed going to Prairie Meadows, hunting, and fishing.

He is survived by his brother Rich Redburn, niece Anne and nephew Jesse. Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation will occur and there will be no services held at this time.

Gary was always a happy soul and knew exactly how to make people laugh. I met Gary when he worked for the City of Des Moines Parks Department. At that time he was supporting the Botanical Center and then supporting the cemeteries. Gary earned the nickname Grave Digger and those of us that knew him adore him for his compassion and kindness he showed to families going through their own grieving process. He never rushed anyone that needed a few more minutes in saying goodbye to their own loved ones. I will truly miss you Gary Rest in peace my dear friend. Hugs!

So very sorry to hear of Gary's passing. Spoke to him earlier this year and focused on our upcoming 50th reunion. Gary had a great smile, was fun to be around, and had many friends at EHS. Forever a Scarlet!
