Gary Roach

Gary Roach, 76, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025.

He attended Lincoln High School, graduating in 1967. Gary was united in marriage to Joyce Hodge on December 30, 1967. They were blessed with two children, Tyler and James. The couple resided in the same house on the southside of Des Moines for over 57 years. His family became his priority and he was always a good example by the way he lived his life.

In 1974, he was baptized with his sons. Most of his career was spent working at the Des Moines Firestone plant for 33+ years until his retirement in 2010. Gary was a proud member of the United Steel Workers of America Union Local 310.

He enjoyed golfing with his friends. Gary was a winning coach in youth basketball and Little League baseball and liked attending the Iowa Cubs baseball games with his grandson, Max. He also liked to be on his mower helping his neighbors with their lawns.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Joyce; sons, Tyler and James; grandson, Maximillian; sister, Karen Waits; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Rosella and brother, Stanley.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Fleur Heights Care Center and Suncrest Hospice for the care they provided for Gary.

The family will greet friends Wednesday, August 6, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. Gary will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
