Gene was born September 27,1932, on his grandparent’s farm near Plover Iowa to Dale and Marguerite (Miller) Sease. Gene was the oldest of 10 children. He loved every chance he got to visit the farm and spending time with his grandparents. Sometimes for the whole summer.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served on the USS Stembel (DD-644) ship on two tours to Japan during the Korean War.

Gene married Elvera Marie Burgduff in 1961 and had two children; Jerry and Jeannie Sease Caulkins. They raised their children in Altoona, IA. He worked as a meat cutter in grocery stores of Des Moines Metro area. Later he learned to fix lawnmowers and small engines and opened his own business of repair service in West Des Moines. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing at home, bowling with his brothers and pitching horse shoes with his son in tournaments throughout Iowa. Gene was widowed at age 55.

He then married Marjorie Skeens in 1987 and became stepfather to 5 adult children. Gene attended Hamilton Business College and graduated with honors in Computer Drafting. Gene and Marge were long time members of Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing piano. He also enjoyed golf and taking long walks together with Marge. Gene and Marge truly found new love in each other and enjoyed traveling by car and motorhome to visit family across the country. They loved hosting their combined families for large holiday dinners and were always generous to those in need.

Gene passes the torch to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved and left words of advice such as “it is what it is,” “that’s it then”, “chin to the wind”, and “keep it simple”.
