Gerald "Jerry" Roth
August 16, 1941 — December 11, 2025
Gerald Anton Roth, of Des Moines, Iowa, went to his heavenly home on December 11, 2025. Born on August 16, 1941, he was raised on a dairy farm near Strasburg, North Dakota. He was the oldest of 12 children. He served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and it was at the Naval base in San Diego, California, where he met his wife of 61 years, Shirley. Jerry, as he was known to his friends and family, raised his children in Indianola, Iowa, before retiring to the Branson Area. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting with family and friends. He was also active in the Catholic Church, serving as a 4th-degree Knight of Columbus.
He is loved and survived by his wife, Shirley, 5 children, and their spouses. Michael and Sharon (Roth) Seaton, Andrew Roth and Mary Thomas, Dave and Ruth (Roth) Burton, Robert and Majella (Doyle) Roth, and Eric and Catherine (Roth) Steffen.
Blessed at his passing with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their spouses, Kassandra Padget, Robert and Elizabeth (Padget) Clark, Kevin Clark, Ryan Roth, Amanda Roth, Rory Roth, Henry Steffen, and Ely Steffen. And with his surviving brothers, sisters and their spouses, Edward Roth of Alice, ND, Robert and Lavern (Roth) Bosch of Grand Prairie, TX, Craig and Marian (Roth) Andresen of New Brighton MN, Anton and Becky Roth, Jr. of Strasburg, ND, Jerome and Lydia (Roth) Schumacher, of Ipswich, SD, Dale and Kathleen (Roth) Nieuwsma, Bismarck, ND, Michael Roth of Moffit ND, Gary and Charlotte (Roth) Van Beek of Maplewood, MN, Kenneth and Carol (Roth) of Lakeville, MN, and JoAnn (Roth) Burns of Eureka, SD.
He was preceded in death by his daughters Mary Roth and Patricia Roth, parents, Anton and Lydia (Wagner) Roth Sr., a sister, Donna Kilbourne, a nephew, Brandon Roth, and a great-grandson, Ryder Lee Padget.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., beginning with the praying of the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, IA 50315. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th St, Des Moines, IA 50315. Burial will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, IA 50003 at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18th.
