Norma Jean Hanlin
July 25, 1932 — September 12, 2023
Norma Hanlin, age 91, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born the daughter of Ray Uhlman and Bernice Cosner on July 25, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Norma worked many years for Wesley Acres and Valley View Village until her retirement. Her most important job in life was being a mom to her eight children, they were her first priority and she took great pride in providing them a loving home.
Norma loved playing BINGO, crosswords, and going to the Pioneer Senior Center, and mingling. Her Saturday mornings were spent going to garage sales and finding the best deals. In her younger years, she loved going out dancing and listening to music.
Above all, her family and friends were most important to her and she adored her cats, Sophie & Mac. Norma always looked forward to the next family event. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her!
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving children Raymond Ratcliff, Pamela Brown, Nancy (Mike) Brandsfield, Debbie Bedford, Judy (Rich) Birkinbine, Bernice (Mike) Nelsen, Joe Hanlin, and Sue (Rick) Briggs, 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and sister Janet Heck.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband Ray Hanlin, parents, great-grandson Cory Brown, and longtime companion Lee Larpenter.
A memorial service honoring Norma will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines followed by urn burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
