Hao Lovan
May 16, 1945 — February 19, 2026
Mr. Hao Lovan passed away on Thursday February 19th, 2026. He was born on May 16th, 1945 in Ban Bo An Muang la Province.
In 1952 he fled to Hanoi with his parents and in 1954, he fled again to Xieng Khouang after the French army lost to the Vietnamese communist at Dien Bien Phu. Later, in 1955, he fled the war to Vientiane Laos. He then graduated elementary school in 1963. He continued his education at Ecole superierure de pedagogie and graduated in 1967. He became a teacher and eventually worked in a Lang Xang Hotel as a secretary. He then worked for USAID. He took his family to cross the Mekong river to Thailand to live in the refugee camp for 5 months and was finally accepted as a refugee in Iowa in October 1975. For most of his life, he worked at Vermeer in Pella and retired from there.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pheng; four sons, Khamphay (Pong) Lovan , Khamphong Lovan, Keo (Tiffany) Lovan, and Khoum (Mala) Lovan, one daughter, Manikhone Singharaj (Somsouk); 11 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
Mr. Lovan was preceded in death by his parents, Dzeck Lovan and Thieng Cathi; stepmother, Hien Lovan, and sisters, Ching Lovan and Poy Lovan.
He was a well-loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His passion was traveling to various casinos, taking pictures and videos to capture family, cooking and eating with family and friends, and playing cards. He loved his family unconditionally and always had a positive attitude. We are all grateful and fortunate to have him in our lives.
