Skip Brookshire

Helen (Skip) Edna Brookshire, age 86, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Iowa Methodist Hospital with family beside her. She was born on November 27, 1939, and raised by her loving grandmother Edna Helen and her uncle Willie Tiley.

Skip had a great love for life and embraced each day with happiness and warmth. She was an avid Coca Cola collector, loved making homemade dog treats and other items and selling them at the farmers’ markets and craft shows. She enjoyed serving lunches at her good friends Davey and Tammy’s memorial rides. She was the highlight of these memorial rides and looked forward to them every year. Skip was always on the go, always making new friends no matter where she went in life. She especially enjoyed traveling with her family on countless adventures around the world together.

Above all her family was at the center of her life. She remained very close to her family throughout life and most of all shared a very close bond with her loving grandchildren Jesse, Christopher Jr. and Everly.

Skip was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Although she is no longer with us her soul and memories will live on forever.

Skip is survived by her loving family - Brother-in-law/Son Jerry (Cindy) Brookshire; Sister-in-law/Daughter Judy (Bill) Lewis; Children Linda Brookshire McKillip, Casey (Jenny) Brookshire, Peggy (Al) Henry; Grandchildren Chris Jennings Sr., Jesse Brookshire; Great Grandson Christopher Jennings Jr.; Great Great Granddaughter Everly Jennings; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Skip is preceded in death by her Husband and the love of her life Norman J. Brookshire; siblings; Grandmother Edna and Uncle Willie.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed immediately by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery after the funeral.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in Skip’s name to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport PO Box 188, De Soto, IA 50069.
