Helen Schooley

Helen Schooley, 97, passed away on July 20, 2026, at Altoona Nursing and Rehab. Helen was born in Washington, Iowa to Glenn and Lulu Schwartz on March 18, 1929. Visitation with refreshments will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will be one hour later at Hamilton’s Funeral Home. Procession for burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery will follow immediately after the funeral.

Helen spent most of her life in the Des Moines area working as a key punch operator. She was a member of the Community Church of Christ and enjoyed spending time at the East Side Senior Center. She was active and enjoyed playing pool, traveling, reading, and she was a force to be reckoned with when it came to Wii Bowling.

Helen is survived by a mix of 14 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; stepsons, Sidney and Larry; stepdaughters, Nedra and Sandra; parents, Glenn and Lulu; and two brothers, Willis and David.
