Janice Elaine Loft, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
Janice was born June 8, 1944, in Grant City, Missouri to Elton and Maxine (Wall) Knight. Her family and her faith were the two most important things in her life. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and she had a special bond with her sister, Barb. Janice also loved her church family and stayed well-connected with them. She enjoyed Bible study and reading the Bible in her spare time. She was an avid reader. Janice loved her dogs as part of her family. She took special care of Angel, Bella, Hobo, Dixie, and Chewy. She was a people person who enjoyed traveling and singing to people. Janice worked as a cashier at Target after retirement and enjoyed making connections with people and they loved her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Steven E. Johnson (Ruth), Kevin A. Johnson, (Marianne), Missy A. Johnson, and Annie Johnson; her sister, Barb Hefley; grandchildren, Daniel Johnson, Andraya (Tyler), Andrew, Aaric (Julia), and Bryttany (Brad); great-grandchildren, Quinn, Rowan, Ash, Garick, and Rory “Little Pistol”; as well as other extended family and friends.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Loft; parents, Elton and Maxine Knight; mother-in-law, Deloris Loft; and her brother, Kenneth Knight.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Cremation will follow the visitation. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Sunshine Open Bible Church, 3100 Easton Boulevard, Des Moines. Urn burial will take place at Franklin Township Cemetery in Santiago at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to her daughter, Diana “Annie” Johnson to be used to help with burial and headstone expenses.
