James Sylvester Patton, age 75, passed away peacefully while under hospice care on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

James was born June 6, 1950, in Macon, Missouri to Virgil and Pearl (Lawrence) Patton, Sr. He worked in the construction field during his working years. James enjoyed fishing and listening to music. He was a car enthusiast and loved taking car rides.

He is survived by his children, Danielle (Johnny) Davis-Hellems, Richard Patton, Robert Patton, and Anton (Pamela) Nichols; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Frazier, Virgil (Mitzy) Patton, Jr., Freda Williams, Stanley (Pam) Patton, Phillip (Tina) Patton, Lynn Patton, and Joseph Patton; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other extended family, and many friends.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy; son, James “Tuffy” Patton; mother, Pearl VanDever; father, Virgil Patton, Sr.; and his sisters, Pearl Moon, Lenora Bradley, and Kimberly Patton.

A celebration of life will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
