Jack A. Scoonover
March 14, 1945 — October 18, 2025
Jack Adrian Scoonover, 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2025, while under hospice care.
Jack was born March 14, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa to Jack P. and Marie (Moriarity) Scoonover.
Jack was a little league baseball coach for his two sons. That love of baseball was carried down to his grandchildren. Jack co-owned Unique Tools with his father and also worked at Central Steel of Iowa for many years.
Jack’s true passion was music, which started at a very young age. He excelled at playing the keyboard. One of his proudest accomplishments was being inducted in to the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his band Mad Hatters for their version of Route 66. Jack played in numerous bands throughout his life, and especially enjoyed having his son, Brian, join him. He played in Subterranean Blues Band, which became Subterranean Experiment, and eventually changed to Betta Love.
He is survived by his sons, Brian J. (Melissa) Lutgen-Scoonover and Jason (Shari) Scoonover; grandchildren, Hannah, Miles, Brendan and Dillon Scoonover; siblings, Linda (Keith) Hatch and Tommy Scoonover; as well as other loving relatives and many special friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marie Scoonover; sister, Claudia; infant son, Robby; and his former wife, Virginia Scoonover.
Cremation will occur and there will be no services held at this time.
