Judith K. Simpson

Judith Kay Simpson, age 81, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

Judy was born April 15, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa to Calvin and Catherine (O’Rourke) Fedro. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines in 1962. Judy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was employed by Dahl’s behind the meat counter, which at that time was a job primarily held by men. She eventually retired from Dahl’s after many years of service. Judy loved garage sales, gardening, and decorating her home.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Jerry Simpson; children, Wendi (Eddie) Anderson-Meek, Gary Anderson, and Kevin (Boo) Anderson; step-daughter, Donna Simpson; grandchildren, John (Trisha) Sparks, Anthony (Nicole) Sparks, Mary Sparks, Torie (Jason) Hermann, Stephanie (Josh) Lampkin, Jeremy (Tabatha) Harvey, Anthony Harvey, and Jacob (Sam) Simpson; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Joan Hagar, Alma Lynch, Jim (Cathy) Fedro, and Cathy (Louis) Ligouri; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Peggy Johnson; brother, John Fedro; sisters, Dianna Nardini and Mary Theresa Beltrame; and her parents.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
