James Farrell
August 19, 1937 — September 14, 2025
James Arthur Farrell, 88, passed away September 14, 2025. He was born at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines on August 19, 1937.
Jim attended Berwick school and graduated from Bondurant High School in 1955. He served in the Iowa Air National Guard from 1958-1961. Jim then worked for Rath Meat Packing and managed a meat locker in Ankeny before he went to work for John Deere before he retired after 30 years.
He was a member of Berwick Congregational Church, Ankeny Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Masons, Eastern Star, Shriners, and Elks Lodge #98. He and Juanita enjoyed horse races at Prairie Meadows and wintering in Texas, cherishing the memories they made together. Jim also enjoyed being a part of the Des Moines Polka Club, gardening, golfing, and volunteering at his church. He could also be found cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones and the Chicago Cubs. Jim was also an amazing handyman and enjoyed helping his friends and family.
Jim is survived by his wife of 20 years, Juanita Farrell; children, Brian Farrell, Kurt (Marianne) Farrell, and Julie (Kyle) Bryan; step children, Jacque, Jan, Julie, and Joy; grandchildren, Collin (Steph) Bryan, Caleb Bryan, and Brianna Smith; great grandchildren, Tait Bryan and Caden Bryan; and several more step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Florence Farrell; older sister, Margaret Jean Mally; and younger brother, Richard Farrell.
Family will greet guests Monday, September 22, 2025 from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with funeral service to begin at 12:00 p.m. Family would like to invite guests to join them for a reception following services at 2:00 p.m. at the Elk's Lodge; 5420 E. University Avenue, Pleasant Hill.

Jim will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful person with a loving heart. . Thank you for taking wonderful care of our mom and giving her 20 years of happiness and joy. Thank you for being a loving step-dad and always caring and helping out with our projects and spending time with us.. Thank you for being a role model and grandpa to Kyle, Jenna and Kayla. . You were a very supportive grandfather to my kids and we truly appreciate it. They loved you and mom going to their activities and listening to their stories. We love you and miss you❤️

I just saw this. I've thought of Brother Farrell a lot over the years as he helped us in DeMolay driving us to LeMars for a Conclave and I'm now a Past Master. Rest In Peace Sir!
