James R. Gallaugher

James R. Gallaugher, 80, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Pine Acres in West Des Moines while under the care of Hospice of the Midwest.

Jimmy was born February 6, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa to James V. and Olene L. (Habermehl) Gallaugher. He was known for his creative eye and enjoyed expressing that vision through his passion for photography. He worked at Children and Families of Iowa for 22 years and treasured the friendships he made there.

Cremation has occurred and Jimmy will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He is survived by his cousins, Teresa Wood, Richard Wood, and Melissa Raymond, as well as other loving relatives and many special friends.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, James and Olene Gallaugher.

Oh Jim! He was my buddy
I use to walk with Anna and Joan and he would walk with us as well and Ms. Delores Caldbeck. For years he would still walk past my house on Clegg Rd.
Rest in paradise Jim. You was a very very good man!

Thank you for posting Jim's obituary. He volunteered at CFI after retirement and I was grateful to work with him! His enthusiasm and appreciation of researching / family history was inspirational!
