James K. Sater, Sr.

James K. Sater, Sr. 75, passed away at his home on September 1, 2025.

James was born on July 6, 1950, in Des Moines, Iowa to Richard and Ruth (Hackwith) Sater. He married Kathy Downs on May 28, 1970. James was a carpenter and a member of the Carpenter’s Union #106. He was also a dog breeder and trainer. James enjoyed going to car shows, working on old cars, going to swap meets and gun shows. He was an avid hunter and went on many hunting trips.

James is survived by his wife, Kathy Sater; children, James K. (Heidi) Sater, Jr., Stacey (Kenny) Utsler and Chad (June) Sater; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Tim Sater; and a host of extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 1539 Pioneer in Des Moines, Iowa 50320.
