Jasen Burton
October 26, 1982 — October 20, 2025
Jasen William Burton, 42, of Des Moines was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on October 20, 2025.
Born October 26th, 1982, in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised in Marshalltown, Iowa, Jasen was energetic and bright from the very beginning. An early riser with a curious mind, he delighted in taking things apart just to see how they worked and put them back together, often better than before. Gifted by God with an incredible ability to build, repair, and create, there was truly nothing he couldn't do. Mechanical, electrical, musical, or in the kitchen, he had a hand for every task and a heart for everyone around him, always ready to show up for people and help anyone.
In God's perfect timing, Jasen later moved to Grinnell, where Shanya, the love of his life, and future wife, also moved at nearly the same time. They developed a close friendship that quickly grew into a deep and unwavering love, and they married in 2015. Soon after they moved to the Des Moines area. Together they built a life full of laughter, adventure, faith and devotion. Jasen was a passionate man; he loved his wife fiercely and his children heroically. He had a natural gift for teaching and patiently passed down the skills he had mastered to his children--how to cook, fix cars, fish and face life with faith and courage.
He was a skilled guitarist, record collector and vintage audio equipment enthusiast; music was woven into the fabric of his life and home. One of Jasen's greatest joys was making music with his family - singing together, playing instruments, performing and creating cherished memories as their own little family band. Those moments of worship, fun, laughter and harmony will forever echo in the hearts of those he loved most. He brought much joy to them over the years as an animated storyteller, commonly sharing tales of his childhood and early adulthood, often in a comical way. He had a great sense of humor and made everyone laugh.
Jasen was also a talented chef who spoiled his family frequently with perfectly cooked, creative and gourmet meals. He was a Journeyman mechanic that could repair anything, a "Mr. Fixit" to everyone who knew him.
He loved baseball and frequently traveled to Kansas City with his wife and children for Royals games, although he was a proud Yankees fan. He had the joy of watching the Yankees beat the Royals in two playoff games last year and heckled the Royals fans (including his wife) boldly, all the way to the parking lot, a memory she will always laugh about. He enjoyed traveling in general, whether sneaking away for weekend adventures with Shanya or trips with the whole family. His strong work ethic and great provision allowed for frequent trips and wonderful memories that his wife and children will forever treasure.
Jasen cherished time outdoors- camping, fishing and exploring God's creation with his family and friends. He earned Master Angler recognition from the Iowa DNR for three different species, and he proudly taught his daughter Jacqueline so well that she earned her own Master Angler title at only 6 years old.
Over the years, Jasen worked at many restaurants, as well as several manufacturing facilities, including JELD-WEN, Dee Zee, and John Deere, where most recently he earned an engineering internship- the beginning of a promising engineering career he was excited to pursue.
Jasen attended Creekside Church in Urbandale, where he participated in men's Bible study and faithfully served on the worship team in the past. His faith was a large part of his life; He loved Jesus and reflected that love to those who knew him. He made sure to lead the family to church and in prayer regularly.
His favorite scripture was Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace that you have been saved through faith and it is not of yourselves, it is a gift from God, not by works so that no man can boast."
Jasen said during his testimony at his baptism, "I like this verse because it points out the truth that there is nothing that I can do to earn favor from God. It is only because of His grace that I am saved. There is nothing I've done that is good, and I don't even feel like it is my faith in Him, it is His faith given to me." Jasen would want nothing more than for any friends or family who don't know Jesus to turn from their sin and put their trust in Jesus's death on the cross as payment for their sin and commit their life to him. He would like to see you all again. Let's make heaven crowded.
The earthly absence of Jasen will forever leave a hole in the lives of all of those that knew and loved him, but we know that he is now with the Lord and those of us who also know and love Jesus will see him again. "But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord." 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17
Jasen is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Shanya; their children Julia(Britt) of Iowa City, Joven, Josephine, Jacqueline, Jessalyn and Jasen "Boman" William, all of Des Moines; son Leo Kippe of Marshalltown; his parents Brian and Angela(Fricke)Anderson of Steamboat Rock, Iowa; Mother-in-law Vicky Lindsey of Clive, Father Dennis(Rhonda)Burton of Indianapolis, IN; Sister Natasha(Chad) Baker of Marshalltown; Sister-in-laws Jessalyn(Mark) Kline of Clive, Mary Lindsey of Champaign, IL; Grandmother Barbara Jester of Indianapolis, IN; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."
"O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?"-1 Corinthians 15:54-55
Memorial contributions can be made out to the family to help with the days to come with Jasen’s loss.
