Joan McQuiston

Joan McQuiston, 79, passed away December 2, 2025.
She was born November 2, 1946, to her parents, Harry and Grace Erickson, in Des Moines, Iowa and they raised her on a farm near Maxwell, Iowa. Joan and Jerry wed on December 17, 1966. Jerry and Joan raised their sons in Polk City; IA. Joan graduated from AIB college with an associate degree in business. They lived out one of their dreams of living in Colorado for a few years. They moved back to live in Des Moines, IA to be closer to their grandchildren.
She loved her work as an administrative assistant at Williams and Company, which she started in 1993. It later became R&A Risk Professionals, where she retired in 2018 as head underwriter.
Joan enjoyed baking, traveling, and being outdoors. She was very adventurous and was fond of traveling to the mountains. When Joan was younger, she enjoyed horseback riding, whitewater rafting, and driving drag strip cars. She also adored animals and had a compassionate heart towards dogs. Above all, Joan cherished time spent with her family. Her annual sister trips and spending time with her grandchildren brought her immense joy. Her retirement trip to Hawaii and her trip to Oregon with Mike, Brooke and Aiden to visit her granddaughter Makiya are among her favorites.
Joan is survived by her husband, Jerry McQuiston; sons, Ron McQuiston and Mike (Sandy) McQuiston; grandchildren, Logan, Dalton, Keegan, Makiya, Brooke (Jordon) and Aiden; siblings, Elaine Erickson, Bev Carstensen, Jill (Bruce) Rasmussen, Bruce (Kathleen) Erickson, and Julee Erickson; 11 nieces and nephews; and a host of many other loving friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Grace Erickson.
Family will greet friends Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in loving memory of Joan.

It was an enormous blessing to grow up having Joan as an aunt. She was loved and will be dearly missed.
