Joel C. Faller

Joel Faller passed away on August 20, 2025 at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines, Iowa. Joel was born on November 4, 1941, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines to Joseph and Virginia (Chedister) Faller. A 1960 graduate of East High, he continued his education at AIB graduating in 1962. Joel began his lifelong career as a CPA in 1963 until his health forced him to retire in 2020.
Joel was devoted to his family, his friends and his clients. He shared the last 40 years of his life with his wife, Susan (Lynn) Faller. Together they enjoyed traveling – favorite trip was to Italy, attending University of Iowa football games – held season tickets for 21 years and traveled to all but two Big Ten stadiums and several bowl games, and getting together with family and friends.
Joel was a member of The Exchange Club Breakfast Club where he made many of his life-long friends. He was also an active member of other organizations over the years. His individual passion was riding his bike. He rode several RAGBRAI’s, some as a member of the Wing Tip Team. He also rode the Pedal the Peaks bike ride three times in Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. His recent favorite activities included watching old movies and mysteries.
Joel is survived by his blended family: wife Sue; children Amy (Dan) Sanford, Corey (Cynthia) Faller, Lynn McNamee (Stephanie), Dan (Lana) McNamee, and Brad (Mimi) McNamee; brother Tim (Michelle) Faller and sister Merry (Rick) Nuss; 10 grandchildren, two great grandsons and one great-grandson due in November. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. A lunch will be served followed by a committal service at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa.
The family would like to thank the people that have made his life comfortable the last few years: His doctors at Unity Point, nurse Sarah with Unity Point, Andrea, Kati, Michelle and the assisted living staff and friends at Scottish Rite Park.
