John Joseph Renteria

John Joseph Renteria, 62, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026, at home in Des Moines.

John was born October 23, 1963, in Des Moines, Iowa to John and Nancy “Lorraine” (Paskin) Renteria.

He was a talented artist who enjoyed painting and drawing, using a variety of creative mediums to bring as much color as possible to his work, including unconventional materials such as nail polish. He was an animal lover, especially when it came to dogs, and he loved playing the guitar and cycling.

He is survived by his wife, Leona Renteria; son, Steven Cleghorn; daughter, Savannah Putney-Fuller; grandson, Mason Putney; sisters, Pamela Stephenson (Mike Gilbert), Sheryl (Dale) Godderd, and Vickie (Dale) Anderson; and his nieces and nephews, Matthew Stephenson, Casey Renteria, DJ Six, Angela Leeper, Amy Wolver, AJ Anderson, and Ashley Blackburn.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lorraine Renteria; and his nephew, Ryan Godderd.
