John A. Martindale Jr.

John A. Martindale Jr. passed away June 5, 2026, at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Medical Center at the age of 66.
John was born December 19, 1959, in Des Moines to John Sr. and Becky (Biggs) Martindale. He graduated from Lincoln High School and later went to DMACC where he received his certificate in First-Class Power Engineering. This certificate allowed him to pursue a career in boiler engineering. John helped create and develop Shady Oaks Golf Course. He worked for ADM Milling and eventually retired from Kemin Industries in 2022. He also owned and operated JVK Railcar Services and Tropix Tanning Salon. John loved fishing, camping playing cribbage and dominoes. He also enjoyed working on his hit and miss engines. John was an avid collector of baseball cards, his collection spans decades. He enjoyed spending time with his friends. Once you became a friend of John’s, you were a friend for life. Above all, he loved his family and was especially proud of his sons and grandchildren.
John is survived by his loving wife, Kim; sons, John III (Malissa) and Austin (Steph) Martindale; grandchildren, Evellyn, Kinsey, Nolan, Kevin and Abriella; many nieces and nephews; a host of extended family and friends; and his brother, Bob (Karla) Martindale.
He was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Dean and Bev Hayes; brother-in-law, Kevin Hayes; and his parents.
The family will greet friends on Friday, June 12, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

So sorry for your loss. John was dad's best friend. I guess they can fish all day long now.
