Service Details

Judith Ann Jones passed away November 25, 2023, at UnityPoint Taylor Hospice House, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born October 6, 1953, to Herschel (Tom) and Ella Carmichael. She grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from Roosevelt High School, class of 1971. Judy enjoyed ballet and many high school activities in which she made lifelong friends, later enjoying the Reunion Committee and lunches with her high school friends.

Judy's career as an administrative assistant included working with Dr. Mike Richards, Lt. Governor Sally Peterson, and in Administration at UnityPoint Des Moines. She was a longtime member of Executive Women’s International (Des Moines Chapter) serving on many committees and board positions, including President. Judy was blessed to meet her husband Bob through her EWI connections. Judy and Bob were married April 10, 2004. Out of this union a blended family was created. Judy and her BFF of 65 years, Bev Van Verth, founded the Birthday Club (friends & family) in about 1975 which continues today.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard. She is survived by her husband, Bob; her sister, Jean (Dave) Wathen; son, Mark (Danielle) Fox; step-daughters, Christy Jones and Kate (James) Thilges; grandchildren, Scout, Kaia, Tatum, Taner, Gabby and Paxton; nephews, David, Michael, and Christopher Wathen; and her beloved dog Copper. Together Judy and Bob loved attending the grandchildren’s activities. They also enjoyed traveling together whenever the opportunity arose.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Robert Behrens and staff at Mission Cancer + Blood, UnityPoint Home Hospice, and UnityPoint Taylor Hospice House for their kind loving care of Judy.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a time of sharing at 6:00 p.m., on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
