June Marie Miller
July 19, 1963 — March 27, 2026
June “Junebug” Marie Miller, 62, passed away Friday, March 27, 2026 in West Des Moines, Iowa. June’s passing was sudden and unexpected, and she will be missed intensely by everyone who knew her.
June was born on July 19, 1963, to Wren Lefler and Ruby Allen in Loma Linda, California. She later moved to North Carolina, and eventually to Iowa to support her daughter’s college journey at Iowa State.
She was the light of every room—funny, engaging, and sharp as a whip. She embraced life fully and always wore a warm, welcoming smile. Music was a constant in her world; she always had the perfect song playing and was forever planning her next concert. The ocean was her favorite place, where her true “mermaid soul” felt most at home. She also had a deep passion for rescuing animals and was never without at least one beloved pet. Her love for animals was unmistakable, and they were naturally drawn to her in return.
She is survived by her daughter, Autumn Marks of West Des Moines, Iowa; siblings, Alan Gedraitis and Justine Lewis of Arizona, and Sarah Davis of Nashville, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews and friends that loved her.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Lewis Miller; and her parents, Wren Lefler and Ruby Allen.
Memorial contributions may be directed to any no-kill animal shelter or animal rescue in her memory. She loved rescuing and helping animals, and she would love donations to those causes.

I am finding it difficult to find the right words to express how special a person June "June-Bug" Marie Lefler Miller was and how special she was to me. The American novelist S.E. Hinton once said "If you have two friends in your lifetime, you're lucky. If you have one good friend, you're more than lucky." I would consider myself more than lucky, I had the privilege and honor of having June as my best friend. June had an infectious smile and laugh which spread happiness to everyone nearby. She loved to share humorous stories building the story to a cresendo waiting to enjoy the laughter her story brought to others and she enjoyed listening to humorous stories as well. June was an incredible example of someone who truly lived life to the fullest! Giving and sharing one's genuinely authentic self with others is a rare quality. She certainly had a unique way of expressing herself. I have so many wonderful memories of everything we experienced together, major life events both happy and sad. We were each other’s maid of honors. She was with me for the birth of both of my children and I was with her for the birth of her daughter Autumn, who was her heart. The many, many concerts we experienced together. One summer June, Charlie and I went swimming almost every single day at the pool. We also shared many happy days swimming at the lake especially when she was able to bring her Sister Sarah with us. I Believe June-Bug had a true Mermaid spirit. The many years of beach trips we shared that began in our teenage years. She absolutely loved to swim in the ocean. We always loved our annual family beach vacations when she lived in NC, the many get togethers and cookouts we shared, the many years of 4-H meetings in the Hop-2-It 4-H Bunny Club of which she was the leader and countless events. We both were Co-leaders in Girl Scout Troops. We had a wonderful time on our Girl Scout trip to Savannah. June-Bug was an excellent cook and she was a skilled griller too. She always enjoyed celebrating her birthday (a true birthday enthusiast), I was fortunate to celebrate many of her birthdays with her over the years. Oh the fun nights we experienced together through the 80's. She absolutely loved to dance and had a lot of talent. She was a great roller skater and could skate (more of skate-dance) both forwards and backwards. June-Bug and I enjoyed just spending time together and the genuine comfort we felt just being in each other’s company is such a rare thing to find in this life. We shared a true heartfelt friendship that time and distance did not diminish. If she loved you she truly loved you and you felt it. She brought fun and laughter whenever she could to your life. If I was feeling down she would always make the extra effort to cheer me up again. She always loved music and movies. Her life should be celebrated and I will carry her in my heart until the day we are reunited again. I was truly blessed to have such a wonderful Beach loving, flip-flop wearing, sunglass wearing (used both for eye protection and as a hair accessory) Best Friend Forever and Sister of the Heart!!! In addition to loving her family and friends, June absolutely loved her animals (her furry babies) and shared the majority of her life with her animal pet family too. I have so much gratitude to June-Bug for her friendship, support and how she changed my life for the better! Autumn please know your Mama is watching over you from Heaven. May you always feel her presence, love, comfort and protection to guide your steps through life. I sincerely believe that June and her loving husband Wayne are together again. Along with being reunited with her Mother Ruby, all her family and friends in heaven and all her pets who were waiting at the rainbow bridge. Rest easy my dear best friend! I will remember and love you forever! Felicia "Flea-Bug" Cherry-Pate
