Kenneth E. Selix
April 24, 1950 — July 01, 2025
Kenneth Eugene Selix, age 75, of Unionville, Iowa, passed away July 1, 2025, at Taylor House Hospice surrounded by his family. He was born on April 24, 1950, in Centerville, Iowa, to Lloyd and Anna Marie (Houser) Selix.
Kenneth graduated from Moulton-Udell High School in 1968. He went on to attend Centerville Community College and later graduated from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri, with a degree in Business Administration. He also served as a member of the Iowa National Guard. Kenneth was a member of the Grace Brethren Church in Udell and has attended Fairview Church of the Brethren in Unionville, Iowa most of his adult life. Kenneth was united in marriage to Sheila (Sleeth) Selix on August 10, 1975, at Fairview Church of the Brethren, Unionville, Iowa. Kenneth spent his life farming – first alongside his father, and later with his neighbor and friend, David Zimmer. Beyond the fields, he worked several years doing carpentry work on the side. In more recent years, until March of this year, he hauled anhydrous tanks for Farm Services in Moravia. This job allowed him to visit with the local farmers, neighbors, and friends at every stop – something he truly enjoyed.
Kenny’s favorite pastimes were going to auctions and attending the Amish produce sale. He also, enjoyed collecting Allis Chalmers model tractors, spending time with family and friends, sitting in his shop recliner watching/napping while Jonathan worked on vehicles, watching tv, scouring the Tri-County Shopper for auctions, eating chocolate, drinking Pepsi, camping and sitting by the camp fire with the family. Kenny was well known for his “Selix Sweet Corn,” which he grew for approximately 40 years. He was a familiar face at local farmers markets, selling his sweet corn and enjoyed chats with his regular customers and neighbors. He also dedicated several years to raising sheep, ultimately leading to his involvement in 4-H projects. One memorable year, the family brought 24 head of sheep to the County Fair. As anyone who knew Kenny can imagine, he was incredibly patient with his kids while preparing for the many trips to the County Fair over the years (lol).
Kenneth was proceeded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Sheila Sleeth Selix, of Unionville, Iowa, daughters Jacqueline Selix Marienau (Chris), Jennifer Selix VanWyngarden (Jamie), Jillian Selix Kaster (Brydon), and a son Jonathan Selix (Jennifer). Kenneth is also survived by four grandchildren Porter, Delaney, Thayne and Bennett Kaster; six step grandchildren Taylor and Claire Marienau, Tyeson and Reide VanWyngarden, Brandon and Kateland Mckeag. Further, he is also survived by his brother Roger Selix and Family of Unionville, Iowa.
Per Kenneth’s wishes, cremation will occur and there will be no formal services. A casual Celebration of Life will be held on July 18, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Fairview Church of the Brethren Fellowship Hall, located at 18140 Co Rd T61, Unionville, IA 52594. A memorial service, led by Pastor Bart VerEllen, will begin at 2:30 p.m.
