Service Details

Karen Kay McMurray, 82, passed away on April 4, 2026 in Des Moines, Iowa.

She was born on October 4, 1943, in Washington, Iowa, to Albert S. Boyd and Vivian (Trupp) Boyd. Karen graduated from Washington High School and went on to work in the hospitality industry.

She was the mother of two sons, Bradley and Robert Anderson, and later married Terry McMurray.
Karen was a strong and resilient woman who faced many trials throughout her life, meeting each with humor and a smile. She was never shy about sharing her opinions with those willing to listen—whether on politics, sports, or the world at large. She was also a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Above all, Karen loved her family and always put them first. Nothing was more important to her than her faith in God, her family, and her beloved little dog, Ruby. She became like a grandmother to many young people in her church and to those she encountered along the way, generously offering her time, support, and guidance.

Karen was loving, kind, and a wonderful listener. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.

Karen is survived by her son, Bradly (Linda) Anderson; daughter-in-law, Michelle Anderson; grandsons, Tim Anderson, Tom Anderson, Trey Anderson and Michael (Lily) Anderson; granddaughters, Brooke (Steve) Greathouse and Lindsay (Robert) Wismeski; great-grandchildren, Piper, Elliott, Maverick, Tate, Aizlyn, Leslie (Daniel) Castillo, and Leo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Robert (Bobby) Anderson; and her husband, Terry McMurray.

No services are planned.
