Laura Carolus, 69, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, December 19, 2025.

Laura was born February 9, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa. She had a big heart and did not consider anyone “friends”, because once you met Laura, you were like family to her. She loved unconditionally and always had an open door for anyone and everyone. Her family meant everything to her and she was the most loving grandma. In fact, she was Grandma Laurie to everyone. She was generous and a caretaker and that extended to her career in the service industry, serving as an Assistant Manager at B-Bop’s for 15 years and as a waitress at Bosselman Truck Stop for 25 years.

She is survived by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 54 years, Jim Carolus; sons, James (Theresa) Carolus and Rick (Heather) Carolus; siblings, Frank Miller, Sherry Carder, David Callison, Gary Boothroyd, and Scott Johnson; grandchildren, Michael Carolus, Donald (Peyton) Carolus, Sunny Carolus, Joseph (Tara) Carolus, James Carolus, Ryan (Kyle) Hosler, Leslie Pallwitz, and Emily Johnson; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Damien, Talia, Kyler, Duncan, Jesse, Lucas, Connor, James, Olivia, and Jeremiah; as well as other extended family and countless friends.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Marie Rasmusson and Earl “Sunny” Miller; son, Keith Carolus; siblings, Bill Callison, Shelia Anderson, and Shelly Pauscher; and her granddaughters, Audrina and Ariana Carolus.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a time of sharing at 7:30 p.m., Friday, December 26, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
