Service Details

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence Michael “Mickey” Griffin on April 15, 2025 at the age of 80.

Mickey was born to Loyola “Loy” and Lawrence Griffin on October 3, 1944 in Grand Island, Nebraska. In 1955, the family moved to Des Moines.

Mickey graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962 and then continued his education studying Business at Drake University. He went on to work for the Colson Company in medical equipment sales until he retired in 2010. During his retirement, you could often find him on the golf course, watching NASCAR, enjoying horse racing, playing cards with friends, or working at Home Depot. Golf was a passion of Mickey’s that kept him active well into his golden years. If the courses were open, Mickey was on them. He was a true Irishman. He loved animals: especially dogs, eagles, horses, and owls. He loved Spring, because it meant that the Kentucky Derby was just around the corner.

He was a member of the Eagles Club and a beloved patron of Club 2000.

Mickey lit up a room with his ability to make everyone laugh. He lived life to the fullest and especially loved spending time with his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, husband, and a dear friend to many.

“He had one of the kindest souls I’ve ever met. He was funny, but a softy underneath. He would do anything in the world for you.” - Andy

“Our hearts still ache with sadness, and secret tears still flow. What it meant to lose you, no one will ever know.” – Kelly and Tracey

Left to carry on the legacy of Mickey are his daughters, Kelly Griffin and Tracey (Kevin) Clark; granddaughters, Kassandra Larsen, Erica Sholley, and Lyndsey Pulley; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Marcy Mulstay and Maureen “Rene” (Paul) Mulstay; nephews, Patrick Mulstay, Ryan (Sandy) Mulstay, Larry O’Donnell, Mike (Linda) O’Donnell, John O’Donnell, and Matt (Sherry) O’Donnell; Mickey is also survived by his wife Charlotte, and her loving family.

Mickey was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia O’Donnell; brothers-in-law, Michael “Mike” O’Donnell, Patrick “Rick” Mulstay, and Charles “Charlie” Becker.

To all of my friends… Whenever you see an Eagle… know that I just made another hole in one!

A celebration of life is planned for a later date.
